Project Description
Studio One delivered one single and two double classroom blocks at Te Kura Māori o Porirua's special school, all manufactured offsite. Specialist learning environments carry design responsibilities well beyond the standard classroom brief, and this project was shaped by five drivers: sensory-considered spaces that support rather than overwhelm, generous and secure outdoor areas, safety designed in from the first sketch, strong connection between indoor and outdoor learning, and a built expression of the school's Māori narrative and identity.
Every element was considered through the lens of the students who use these spaces daily. The result is teaching accommodation that is genuinely fit for purpose: calm, safe, connected, and unmistakably of its school and community.
